Subject: American Sign Language 1, 2, 3


ASL I - ASL I is an introduction to the language and the Deaf culture. Topics include the alphabet, numbers, greetings and introductions, family/friends/relationships, daily routines, sports, school/house/community, money, time, food and animals. A few ASL related projects will be assigned throughout the school year.


ASL II - ASL II is a continuation to the language and the Deaf culture. Topics include classifiers, ABC stories, signing songs, roles of interpreters, health related signs, making requests, disruption of plans, countries, ethnicity, weather, food, and describing floor plans. There will be many ASL related projects assigned throughout the school year. This class is offered as a CGCC dual credit class.


ASL III - ASL III is a more in depth continuation of the language and Deaf culture. Topics include Deaf Culture, Deaf history, signing about memorable moments, facts (%, statistics, ratios), health, explaining rules, money and storytelling. Students will really go more in depth with signing narratives and using the language ‘naturally.’ ASL III is offered as a CGCC dual credit class.

Welcome to American Sign Language!
Before we get started with class, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Kristen Thomasson and I have been signing for over 22 years. I have a Bachelors degree in ASL interpreting and interpreted for over six years. I have my Masters in Education. I have been teaching American Sign Language at the high school level for 17 years. I love teaching students about American Sign Language and Deaf culture every day.
